Parents Vs Team Match

The morning of Sunday 11th April saw the first Parents v Players match held at Redmoor High School. The full squad of Redmoor Boys turned out for the occasion in full kit and were full of confidence. The parents also turned out in force, not in coordinating kit and maybe not the same amount of enthusiasm.
Before the game commenced Redmoor boys had a kick around whilst the Parents were giving a firm team talk by nominated Captain for the game Shane 'Kung Fu Panda' Gibbons. His cry of " Come on Parents we can have these" could be heard all around the local area and the match began.
Kung Fu Panda elected to go in goal first and was supported in defence by quite a number of parents who were still finding their feet regarding positions. At one point one Redmoor player was outnumbered as at least 5 parents all went for the same ball. The parents took the early lead and very soon they were 3 nil up and feeling quietly confident. Redmoor Boys pulled one back with a great strike from Dan Faulkner who at one point decided that although he's a striker the safest place on the pitch was in defence.
The Boys had a secret weapon on the pitch and had enrolled the services of 'Little Jack' a cracking little player who can take out a parent with one kick. The Redmoor boys fought hard but were definitely outnumbered on the pitch.
Half time came which saw the parents breathing heavily and Kung Fu Panda nursing an injury. But the Panda was determined to play on. The quality of his play improved by wearing a pair of loaned boots.
The second half saw improved play from both teams and the defensive force of Sean Chamberlain & Jordy McKirgan assisted by Helen Sherriff ensured that Redmoor did not score many more goals. Parents player Steve Bourne and his son Mitchel made an early exit from the game during this half due to an unexpected invitation to a party but we believe it was for safety reasons really.

The Boys scored another 4 goals in this half but they couldn't contain the parents who seemed to gel as a team when it was too late. Roger's all white kit didn't stay white for long and when Lisa took over in goal she was able to use her bright pink Uggs to great effect and save a few goals. The killer keeper for Redmoor though was Adrian Sherriff who made some classic saves. The same must be said for The Boys keeper Cole Gibbons who pulled off some incredible saves. Phill (slipped discs) Faulkner took time out to assess the team and decided both teams needed to make changes.

Brought on for the parents was Sam I'm at Uni Webster who helped out Norma Light in midfield. Norma incidentally played part of the second half carrying her daughter around as a secret weapon we feel. She was still able to make some classic challenges even beating her own son on many occasions.

The Boys bought on Abbi ' Sportswash' Faulkner and two young guys called Luke & Dale who according to Kung Fu Panda " Couldn't kick a ball to save their lives"

The later part of the game saw a mass pile up with Pinky Lisa & Kung Fu Panda smothered by a mass of Redmoor Boys determined to win the ball not sure to this day who won the ball but it caused a great deal of amusement on the sidelines. Then tragedy struck as Mark 'Achilles' Johnson dropped to the floor with a repeat injury which saw him have to leave the game. The final result was 6 - 5 to the Parents and the injury update is as follows: All parents were declared unfit, the Boys were disheartened and Achilles Johnson & The Panda visited A & E. The Panda's tendons are now recovering and Achilles Johnson is to have surgery.

Apart from all this everyone enjoyed this match and in a few weeks when all have recovered the lads have put out the challenge for a return match!!! Well done everyone who was involved.

Best wishes and get well soon go to both the injured parents from everyone at Redmoor Boys FC
